Choosing plants that actually suit your specific North Carolina site matters more than picking any single “best” species, because suitability varies considerably across the mountains, Piedmont, and Coastal Plain.

Serviceberry is one of the most broadly useful options across the state. Seed feeders are a familiar backyard addition, but they are not particularly well-matched to what mockingbirds actually eat.
