CDPH recommends checking dogs and cats daily after outdoor activity and consulting a veterinarian about an appropriate preventive product.
That veterinary consultation matters especially for cat owners. Some pesticide ingredients used in tick preventives for dogs can be seriously harmful to cats, and products should never be applied to cats without specific veterinary guidance.
